TAKE ONE MORE CHANCE BY SHREYA GARG

Take One More Chance is a short novel by 17 year old Shriya Garg. Though, the novel is fairly well written, it is fairly hollow and full of cliches and stereotypes. This is the story of Naina Kashyap, a 25 year old young woman who is an accountant by force( because her father wanted her to be an engineer or, if things got worse, an accountant) and who is now now once again forced to get married. The only choice she has is whether to marry a boy she loves or take the one chosen by her parents. Basically, she has 6 months to find her prince charming or to live with one served by her parents. Thus, begins her search for a suitable match. To spice things up every candidate she meets ends up in the hospital, except one Aditya Khanna, a hunk, who also happens to be Naina's best friends's boyfriend. So, this is a story of how these two through a series of fights, arguments, and situations eventually fall in love and accept their fate.

Well, the story is simple and predictable and even though the author tries to add a small twist in the end, it is fairly unconvincing. The characters and their description is mostly run of the mill and typical of novels in this genre. The Tall, handsome, smart, muscular boy and the straight forward, unflinching, idealistic and beautiful girl are both there. All in all the plot is weak and the pacing is slow at times with nothing much happening at all. There are a couple of subplots which seem unnecessary.

So, in my opinion, Shiya Garg has done a good job as far as the writing style is concerned. She keeps the sentences short and crisp, however, one wishes there was more in terms of the plot which is hollow and predictable. Lets hope we'll read more stuff from her, because anyone who could make work like this at the young age of 17, certainly has a lot of promise.
